10:59
Jen's Review
10:59 was a game that I genuinely enjoyed from start to finish.
The game isn't particularly long, but honestly, I think that's one of its strengths. It tells the story it wants to tell without dragging things out, and it keeps the tension up the entire time. The atmosphere is creepy, the story is unsettling, and by the end, things get a little unhinged in the best way possible.
The scares were also well done. There are plenty of jumpscares throughout the game, but they never felt overused. Combined with the atmosphere, they kept me on edge for most of the experience.
One thing I really appreciated was the puzzle design. The puzzles require you to pay attention and figure things out for yourself, but they're not so difficult that you end up wandering around for an hour wondering what you're supposed to do next. It felt like a good balance between challenge and progression.
From a technical standpoint, I had no issues during my playthrough. The gameplay was smooth, everything worked as expected, and I never ran into anything that pulled me out of the experience.
I played this one live on stream, and the full playthrough took about an hour and a half. That said, a good chunk of that time was spent talking with chat, so the game itself is probably closer to an hour long.
Overall, I had a great time with 10:59. It's creepy, entertaining, has some solid scares, and doesn't overstay its welcome. If you're looking for a shorter horror game with a creepy atmosphere and a story that gets a little wild, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a shot.
Kayla's Review
10:59 is one I would absolutely consider a hidden gem. That said, the developer of this game, Beshbarmak Games, has a TON of hidden gems that I'd highly recommend.
In this game, your character wakes up and doesn't recognize the home that he's in. He's stuck within a nightmare, he's seeing a boy that seems familiar, and a presence that causes nothing but angst and fear. But for some reason, we don't try to escape it.
The main thing I loved about this game was how it told the story. You start to realize how it's piecing together throughout the game but it's really not until the end that everything ties together... but it's done beautifully and very subtly. The atmosphere in this was 10/10 for me... like it created a TON of anxiety even though there wasn't a ton of elements, scares or even sounds that were super in your face. It all was done just right to create that fear.
If I understand it correctly, this game is actually in terms of story, the sequel to another game of this Dev, Snap Snap which I also highly recommend. Its kind of neat how the stories all tie together as I said before.
Now about the atmosphere... it's VERY unsettling. And because of that, when the well-timed jumpscares hit, they hit and they hit well. The creepy face still lives rent free in my mind... truly. The sound design of the entire game really shined. The game itself ran super smooth and I didn't experience any bugs at all. And chat seemed to really enjoy watching this as well. I believe I finished this in just over an hour and that was with engaging with chat nonstop. So it's not a super long game, but I definitely think that that aspect worked well here.
If you're wanting a solid little indie horror that frankly is yet another hidden gem, that will give you a story, scare you half to death, make you feel uneasy the entire playthrough, and not overstay its welcome... I highly recommend giving 10:59 a play. This is one that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did!
