Abandoned Souls
Jen's Review
This game was recommended to me multiple times, and even though I’d never heard of it, I finally caved and gave it a shot — and honestly? I’m glad I did.
I was pleasantly surprised. The game has that creepy GoPro / found-footage vibe that makes everything feel way too real for comfort. You play as a vlogger who specializes in urban exploration, venturing into an abandoned hospital or mental facility… and from the start, the atmosphere just feels wrong.
This game checks a LOT of boxes for me:
Feeling like you’re being watched or followed
Unexplained noises that make you stop in your tracks
Red lighting that instantly raises your blood pressure
That constant “I want OUT of here” feeling
Everything felt grounded and realistic, which honestly made it way more unsettling than flashy over-the-top horror.
Being an indie game, it’s on the shorter side — about 1 to 1.5 hours — but that was MORE than enough to scare the socks off me. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, and it delivers solid tension the whole way through.
👉 Final verdict: If you’re looking for a solid, immersive horror experience with strong atmosphere and realistic scares, Abandoned Souls is absolutely worth your time. Definitely recommend.
Kayla's Review
Abandoned Souls was recommended to me a few times during stream and I had bit the bullet not having a single clue what the game was or what I was walking into. I quickly realized why people were recommending it... because they love to torture me, that's why.
The found footage POV games are my favorite because of how realistic it makes the game feel. You start out having to walk through a creepy woods and needing to enter a creepy building and the jumpscares pop off pretty quickly. After entering the main building of the game, you immediately get this eerie feeling that someone or something is following you? That's the best way I know to explain it. I just felt watched the entire time.
The ambiance and sound design reminds me of Gretlow Tapes in a "you're not supposed to be here" type of way. This game plays on that feeling with the very well done sound design and how they have the entire map set up. There's a handful of puzzles that were relatively simple to complete making it a super smooth and quick playthrough.
If you like the found footage vibe and games that don't just rely on cheap repetitive jumpscares, definitely give this one a go. I really enjoyed it and would rate it probably one of my top 10 favorites to date!
