August Night
Jen's Review
August Night… yeah. I loved this game.
Visually, it looks incredible. The graphics are clean, detailed, and paired with an atmosphere that is genuinely unsettling—dark, quiet, and dripping with that “something is very wrong here” energy. It’s exactly what you want when you boot up a horror game and brace yourself for a bad time (the good kind of bad time).
Now, story-wise? There basically isn’t one—and I don’t even mean that as a complaint. You walk up to your apartment building, climb the stairs, enter your apartment… and then things just start happening. No exposition dump, no long explanations. Just vibes. And fear.
The ghost/monster is where this game really shines. It’s horrifying in the most uncomfortable way. Most of it looks almost like a normal human—but the front of its face is sliced off, and something about that design is so wrong that it sticks with you. It’s uncanny, disturbing, and absolutely nightmare fuel.
And the jumpscares? ✨ Chef’s kiss. ✨ Perfectly timed, brutal, and effective. The kind that gets a genuine reaction out of you before your brain even catches up.
My only complaint—and I mean only—is that it’s too short. Just when everything is firing on all cylinders and you’re fully locked in… it ends. I needed more. I wanted more.
Everything else? Completely on point. If you’re looking for a short but incredibly effective horror experience with strong visuals, creepy atmosphere, and top-tier scares, August Night is absolutely worth your time. Just be warned—you’ll finish it wishing there was more waiting for you in the dark. 👻
Kayla's Review
Going into August Night, I’ll be honest…I was hesitant. At first glance, it looks like it could easily fall into the “yet another apartment-based horror game” category, and we’ve all played enough of those to be cautious. Thankfully, this one proved me wrong in a good way.
The atmosphere is incredibly unsettling and does a great job of making the familiar feel uncomfortable. The scares hit well, and a few of them were genuinely trippy in a way that caught me off guard. Visually, the game looks great and does a lot with its space and repetitive action triggers instead of relying solely on darkness and silence.
THE HONEST ROADBLOCK
That said, my experience wasn’t flawless. During the stairwell section, I ran into a glitch that completely prevented progression. That’s never a fun way for a horror game to end, especially when the tension is building. I did report the issue to the developers and fully plan to replay the game again soon, but because of that, I can’t give a fully thorough review just yet.
STREAMER PERSPECTIVE
From what I was able to play, August Night shows promise. The atmosphere and scare design translate well to stream, and the visual presentation keeps things interesting to watch. Assuming the progression issue is fixed, this feels like a game that could deliver a solid, tense experience especially for viewers who enjoy slower, mood-driven horror.
SHOULD YOU PLAY IT?
I’ll go ahead and say yes. Based on what I’ve seen so far, August Night is a decent play choice with strong atmosphere and effective scares. If you’re willing to wait for potential bug fixes (or replay after patches), this is one worth keeping an eye on. I’ll definitely be revisiting it to see how the full experience holds up.
