Beside Myself
Jen's Review
Beside Myself is one of those indie horror games that I did enjoy while playing, but it doesn’t really stand out among the dozens of horror games I’ve experienced. It’s solid — just not especially memorable.
You find yourself in an abandoned mental hospital, slowly uncovering what happened in the past through exploration and flashbacks. And while that setup isn’t bad by any means, it is a premise we’ve seen quite a few times in the horror genre.
That said, the game does what it sets out to do. The atmosphere is creepy, the environments are unsettling, and there are multiple jump scares that absolutely had my heart rate spiking. It ran well, and the scares were effective in the moment.
Overall, Beside Myself is a good game. I’m not saying it isn’t. I enjoyed my time with it, and it definitely delivered some solid scares. It just wasn’t one of those games that sticks with you long after you finish — not a “remember when I played this” kind of experience.
If you’re a horror fan looking for something familiar and entertaining to pass the time, it’s worth checking out — just don’t expect it to reinvent the genre.
