Ohhh Grammy… Grammy, Grammy, Grammy.

I actually had way more fun with Don’t Look At Grandma than I expected to. This one sat on my wishlist (aka my very chaotic “to-play” list) for a few months. Every time I watched the trailer, I kept thinking, okay… this could either be really fun or really cheesy. Turns out—it’s the fun kind of chaos, and I’m so glad I gave it a shot.

The premise is simple: you’re staying the night at your grandma’s house. Totally normal, right? Wrong. Because Grammy is… not Grammy. At all. She’s actually a very aggressive demon, and your entire goal becomes completing a ritual while avoiding looking at her. Which sounds easy...until you realize the game is built to make you panic and mess that up.

When I first started playing on stream, I’ll be honest...I was a little confused. It takes a minute to understand what you’re supposed to be doing. But once it clicks, it clicks, and from there it turns into a really fun (and slightly unhinged) experience.

I’d definitely classify this as more of an action horror. You’re running around collecting heirlooms needed for the ritual while navigating what are essentially chase sequences...but with a twist. The “don’t look at Grandma” mechanic is simple, but it adds so much tension. There’s even an eye-closing feature, which sounds harmless until you realize you’re constantly bracing yourself for the moment you open them and she’s just… right there.

And yes, for science, I chose violence and looked at her on purpose. Don’t do that. Terrible decision. Regrets were had.

The mechanics overall feel really smooth, especially for this style of game, and the 'chase' elements are genuinely fun. The jumpscares somehow manage to be both terrifying and hilarious, which is a very specific balance that this game actually pulls off.

Another big win here is REPLAYABILITY. The game offers both a Story Mode and a Challenge Mode, which is something you don’t always see in indie horror. I haven’t jumped into Challenge Mode yet, but based on Story Mode, I’d expect it to push you to be more efficient while ramping up the difficulty and honestly, I’m here for it.

Visually, the graphics are solid, the sound design does its job well, and everything runs smoothly. There were a few moments where I felt like I was running in circles trying to find the next item but that honestly felt intentional and added to the chaos.

Also, unexpected highlight...the credits. The soundtrack during the credits was a hit with both me and chat, and I loved how detailed they were. Getting those little glimpses into the developer and their story, and what helped them make this into the game it is, was just a really sweet little touch.

Overall Don’t Look At Grandma is chaotic, creepy, and genuinely fun in a way that makes it perfect for streaming or just a wild solo playthrough. It’s got smooth mechanics, a unique core concept, and just enough humor mixed into the horror to keep it entertaining the entire time.

This is 100% one I’ll be revisiting for Challenge Mode...and an easy recommendation if you’re looking for something that’s equal parts scary and ridiculously fun.
