From the Darkness
Jen's Review
From the Darkness was actually terrifying, and I was not prepared for how much suspense this game delivers without even chasing you.
There’s no running from a monster. No sprinting. No big dramatic chase scenes.
And yet somehow… it convinces your brain that something is ABSOLUTELY about to happen at all times.
The atmosphere is creepy, the tension is CONSTANT, and the suspense is honestly the scariest part. Every sound, every little change in the environment makes you second-guess yourself. I kept thinking, “Okay THIS is when it gets me” — and sometimes it did 😭
I wouldn’t really call the game puzzle-heavy, but there are things you have to figure out and pay attention to. You can’t just walk around mindlessly — which makes it even more unsettling when you realize you’re standing still… and something changes anyway.
This is a GREAT horror game if:
You love suspense over nonstop action
You like being mentally messed with
You want something scary that doesn’t take forever to complete
Short, intense, and genuinely unsettling.
Highly recommend — you will absolutely not be disappointed.
Kayla's Review
From The Darkness was honestly one of those games that had my blood pressure high consistently throughout the entire game. But not from multiple jump scares, it was from the amount of suspense the apartment and sounds created.
The sound design was done so perfectly that your ‘ok something is about to happen’ radar never turned off, yet the jump scares were so perfectly timed that when I thought something was going to happen it didn’t and when I thought it was safe, I wasn’t. That made the scares insanely effective. Also… whose idea was it to create that creepy little devil baby? Seriously? The eyes moving wherever your character moved to was legit nightmare fuel.
The game play was super smooth, there were a few puzzles that had me stumped for a few minutes but honestly I think that was solely because my mind was in fight or flight mode. The scares were placed well and hit hard. It took me about an hour to complete the game which is pretty typical for the indie style horror. Ultimately this was a solid game and it was a great example of what psychological horror should be.
If you enjoy truly suspense driven games, definitely give this one a play because it was a great ride!
