I went into Greed Stays Home cautiously optimistic. The premise? Interesting. The concept? Solid. The potential? Absolutely there. Did I hate it? No. Did I love it? It's not by any means a terrible game, it just didn't quite hit for me the way I had hoped.

Without diving into heavy spoilers, Greed Stays Home centers around isolation, tension inside a domestic setting, and the psychological weight of… well, greed. You’re placed in a house that feels grounded in reality. Not a haunted asylum. Not an abandoned hospital. Just a normal, lived-in environment which automatically makes things more relatable and uncomfortable.

The game leans into subtle unease early on. Lights. Sounds. Space. Silence. You can tell it wants to build dread instead of relying on cheap tactics. So let’s give credit where it’s due. The sound design is solid. It does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to tension. Ambient noise, environmental audio, subtle cues...it all works well. Nothing felt overly dramatic or cheesy.

Mechanically? Super smooth. Movement felt clean. Interactions were responsive. I never felt like I was fighting the game itself, which is a huge plus in horror. So technically? It runs well.

Here’s where it lost me a bit. It just felt… empty in a lot of spaces and by the end. Not visually empty. Not mechanically broken. Structurally empty. The story is interesting but it doesn’t quite dig deep enough to make it hit. The scares are present, but they don’t escalate in a way that feels intentional. The tasks exist, but they don’t always feel meaningful.

It’s like the framework of a really good horror experience is there… But the connective tissue between moments just isn’t strong enough. There were sections where I found myself thinking: “Okay… what’s the next layer?” And it never fully came.

This isn’t a jumpscare-heavy game, which normally I love. But the tension-building didn’t quite peak the way I wanted it to. Some moments felt like they were leading up to something big… and then just kind of didn’t sometimes. That doesn’t make it bad it just makes it feel a bit underdeveloped.

Like the game was holding back when it should’ve committed harder. The concept behind the story is genuinely interesting. It touches on themes that could have been deeply uncomfortable in a powerful way. And I really think with tighter pacing or stronger narrative structure, it could have landed much harder.

I played this one on stream, and while chat was engaged, it didn’t have that collective “ohhh this is GOOD good” energy that some horror titles bring. It sparked curiosity. It sparked a few "oh shit that got me" moments. But honestly by the end the most memorable thing from the game was the fact that the mud we walked through sounded super squishy and moist and not much else.

Greed Stays Home is not a bad game. It’s polished, it runs smoothly, the sound design works and the premise is strong. But it feels like it needed one more layer. Maybe some more depth in the storytelling or stronger escalation in tension. More commitment to the scare ideas or the environment they created.

If you enjoy slower, quieter horror and don’t mind a more restrained experience, you may really appreciate it. For me? It was good. Just not unforgettable.
