Jen's Review
First off—kudos to the developers, because Gretlow Tapes instantly shot its way onto my “Top Horror Games of All Time” list. Right up there with Ramona, Ethel, and Madison. This game did everything right.
The atmosphere? Chef’s kiss. Creepy, unsettling, and had me on edge from the second I pressed “Start.” The jumpscares? Oh, they were ruthless. Not predictable, not repeatable, just pure chaos. They happened at the most random times—like the game heard me take a confident breath and said, “Oh? You feeling bold today?”
Speaking of confidence—there were several moments where I got brave (for about five seconds), trash-talked the ghost, and immediately paid the price. I’d be like, “You don’t scare me, you little heffer—” and BOOM. Jumpscare. Full-screen terror. The game basically hit me with a, “Hold my beer.”
The puzzles were great too—challenging, clever, and just the right level of “my brain hurts but in a good way.” Gameplay was smooth, zero bugs, nothing broke except my will to live.
And listen… some of these scares hit me so hard my entire body froze like I accidentally took a mental screenshot. Full system lockup. My soul dropped out, rolled across the floor, and waited for my brain to factory reset. Took me a whole minute to remember how to exist.
Absolutely phenomenal horror experience. Perfect scares, no bugs, pure nightmare fuel.
Quick Summary: Top-tier horror. Random jumpscares. Ghost has hands. 10/10 full-body shutdowns. And to my viewers who had to listen as I screamed, rebooted, and tried to reassemble my dignity—thank you for surviving with me.
Kayla's Review
The Gretlow Tapes is hands-down one of the most terrifying horror experiences I’ve played, and that’s saying a lot. If you loved MADiSON, this game absolutely belongs in the same conversation. From the very start, it nails an overwhelming sense of dread that never really lets up.
The found footage POV is what truly elevates the experience. It makes everything feel disturbingly real, like you’re watching something you shouldn’t be seeing… and worse, you’re trapped inside it. The ambiance and atmosphere were perfectly done, with sound design that constantly keeps you on edge. Even moments of silence feel threatening, like the game is just waiting for the perfect time to strike.
And when it does? The jump scares are absolutely brutal. They’re not cheap or predictable…they’re loud, sudden, and they hit you when your guard is down forcing real panic reactions. The game keeps this intensity throughout, never giving you a chance to fully relax.
What really impressed me is how confident The Gretlow Tapes is in its horror. It doesn’t rely on constant action; it builds tension slowly and then unleashes it at just the right moments. The result is an experience that feels deeply unsettling long after you’ve stopped playing.
If psychological horror is your thing and MADiSON is one of your all-time favorites, The Gretlow Tapes is a must-play. It’s terrifying, immersive, and incredibly effective at making you feel unsafe in the best possible way.
