The Wellmonts Case
Jen's Review
Wellmonts Case was a game I went into with moderate expectations. When I watched the trailer, I thought, “Yeah, this looks pretty good.” Not amazing. Not mind-blowing. Just… good.
Turns out? It was better than pretty good.
I’ve played a lot of horror games—of every type—and at this point, I’m pretty desensitized. Creepy environments and unsettling vibes don’t usually get to me the way they used to. But this is the first game in a while that actually gave me that uncomfortable, hesitant feeling. The kind where you don’t really want to move forward… but you do anyway.
And the story? I really loved it.
You play as Frank, investigating the Wellmonts case—a cold case involving a family that mysteriously disappeared. As you progress, you uncover pieces of the story bit by bit, and the pacing works really well. It keeps you engaged without dumping everything on you at once.
And that ending? Yeah. I did not see it coming.
It genuinely caught me by surprise in the best way and tied everything together in a way that felt earned and satisfying.
Overall, Wellmonts Case is a great horror experience—strong atmosphere, effective storytelling, and a rare ability to actually make me feel uneasy again. I absolutely recommend playing this one. Don’t sleep on it. 👀
Kayla's Review
The Wellmonts Case absolutely blew past my expectations. When I first saw the trailer and Steam screenshots before release, my reaction was very much, “This could be great… or it could be aggressively mediocre.” Turns out, it was neither safe nor subtle and I mean that in the best way possible.
When the game released, Jen played it first, and I had to actively stop myself from watching her stream because I didn’t want a single thing spoiled. That alone should tell you something. It was painful. But boy, am I glad I went in blind.
You play as a detective investigating a family’s disappearance, arriving at a farm that looks deceptively normal until it very quickly proves it is not. Before you even make it into the house, the game hits you with a small scare that sets the tone immediately: you are not safe here.
STORY, ATMOSPHERE & CONSTANT UNEASE
One of the strongest aspects of The Wellmonts Case is that it actually commits to its story. As you progress, you uncover pieces of information that slowly allow you to put the case together yourself. And yes, we love a horror game that gives us a narrative worth caring about.
The unsettling feeling never lets up. I’d genuinely put it up there with Gretlow and Welcome to Kowloon in terms of sustained dread. The creepy mannequin doll that seems to watch your every move? Nightmare fuel. Absolute not. And Ethan, specifically Ethan in his skin suit, is somehow even worse. That man got me good more times than I’d like to admit.
SCARES THAT SCARE WELL
The jump scares in this game are plentiful but not in a spammy way. They are perfectly timed and they hit hard. So hard, in fact, that we set a personal record for how many “F%#! off”s were said during a single game and stream. That’s impressive considering the horror catalog we’ve built up.
This game didn’t just scare me once or twice…it repeatedly got genuine reactions, which is not easy to do.
PERFORMANCE & STREAMER EXPERIENCE
Graphically, The Wellmonts Case looks fantastic and ran very smoothly throughout the stream. Chat was fully locked in the entire time…engaged, reacting, and having just as much fun watching as I was playing.
My only real complaint is that the pacing stalls slightly toward the end, and while I didn’t see the ending coming, it could’ve used a bit more oomph to really seal the deal. That said, it didn’t ruin the experience, it just kept it from being completely flawless.
The full playthrough took about 2.5 hours, and that’s with plenty of chat interaction along the way.
SHOULD YOU PLAY IT?
100% yes. If you’re looking for a genuinely terrifying horror experience, not just a quick scare fest, The Wellmonts Case is an easy recommendation.
We all loved it. It was just an all-around great time and one that stuck with me after the stream ended which doesn’t happen often. 🩸🖤
