Vigil
Jen's Review
I first heard about Vigil through clips on social media, and I was instantly interested—mainly because of its very unique mechanic.
This game actually uses your camera to track when you blink.
And yes… it’s exactly as stressful as it sounds.
I’ll say right away—Vigil absolutely delivers on that concept. The blinking mechanic is both fun and genuinely challenging. It sounds simple, but the moment you realize you can’t blink… suddenly that’s all your body wants to do.
So yeah—panic sets in pretty quickly.
The monster design plays into that perfectly too. It’s incredibly creepy, especially when it’s just standing there at the end of a dark hallway, staring you down. Because you already know what’s coming—the second you blink, it’s closer.
And there’s nothing you can do to stop yourself forever.
The story itself is pretty simple, but honestly, that works here. The focus is clearly on the experience and the mechanic, and it doesn’t try to overcomplicate things.
My only real complaint is the length.
I was genuinely having a great time with it, and it ended way sooner than I wanted it to. That said, the game is free to play, so it makes sense that it feels more like a demo than a full-length experience.
Still—I’d love to see more.
This is such a creative idea, and I really hope the developer keeps building on it. They’ve definitely earned a spot on my watch list.
If you’re looking for something short, unique, and guaranteed to mess with you in a very real, physical way… Vigil is absolutely worth checking out. 👀
