We Used to Play Here
Jen's Review
I’ll say this—We Used to Play Here wasn’t originally high on my list.
It looked good, sure… but it wasn’t one I felt like I needed to jump into right away.
That is—until a couple viewers kept requesting it.
So I finally gave in… and now I’m sitting here wishing I had played it way sooner.
I had so much fun with this game—and stream absolutely loved it.
The story is honestly wild. I’m not going to give too much away, because figuring it out as you go is half the experience—but just know this:
It’s probably not going to turn out the way you think it will.
There were multiple moments where I just sat there like… “What the crap did I just watch?”
And I mean that in the best way.
The game constantly throws things at you that feel unexpected, and it keeps you questioning what’s real, what’s not, and what’s about to happen next.
And then there are the mini-games.
Those things are diabolical.
You’re trying to make super precise movements while everything around you is falling apart—things popping up in your face, distractions everywhere, jumpscares hitting at the worst possible time. It turns into pure chaos, and it’s so fun.
It’s one of those games where you’re laughing, panicking, and trying to focus all at the same time.
Overall, this was just a really fun, unpredictable ride from start to finish.
If you’re looking for something that keeps you guessing and throws you into complete chaos in the best way possible… definitely give this one a try. 👀
Kayla's Review
So this was a game that I hadn't ever even heard of until I happened to see a stream clip of ShowtimeRy playing it, and then Jen played it and viewers had told me to give it a whirl. I don't know how this didn't come across my Steam recommendations because I genuinely love this type of game.
Now, it wasn't the scariest game I've ever played before, however it was a super fun experience. There's an actual story here which is an automatic win in my book because sometimes indie horror's lack those, but I honestly did NOT expect for the story to go in the direction it did.
I don't want to spoil anything either so, I'll say this... Your character is seeking answers, and little pieces of those answers are given throughout as you explore and complete puzzles. The puzzles throughout this one were simple but actually super unique. And as Jen said, the mini games were diabolical but in the best way. Your movements have to be SO intentional all while trying to not have a stroke because there's just a lot still happening all around you and on purpose. That last one had both me and chat on edge and once we finally beat it we CELEBRATED.
Mechanically the game play is super smooth; there are parts throughout that do feel a bit walking sim-ish, but those parts ALWAYS lead to a part of the story that you learn more about... or, something darker. The pacing of it all was actually really well done. The jumpscares? Boy let me tell you... when they hit they freaking HIT. The graphics weren't game changing but were solid and it was nice seeing an environment that hasn't been used 1000 times in other games.
The ending of the game will leave you with your mouth wide open... seriously, lol. I was struck with a whole lotta "what the f*#!?", laughing, more "okay but seriously what the f*#!?" Again though, all in the best way!
Overall this game was great and an experience I ended up really enjoying. I was kind of sad that I hadn't heard of it sooner. Mechanically smooth, graphically great, audio design was done super well, puzzles were fun, simple and unique, the mini games were a trip, the jumpscares were VERY well placed and timed, the pacing was done super well, and the storyline was a jaw dropper. You can't ask for much more than that out of an indie horror especially at this price point.
If you're looking for a horror game that provides entertainment in several different ways, I'd highly recommend We Used To Play Here!
